What is a "New Year's Resolution" and why do we do it?

OK, so you probably already know what a New Year's Resolution is, right? A decision you've made to do or not do moving forward in order to better your life. We tend to do this at the beginning of the year as it seems the best time to 'reset' but I have found the best time to make a change is when things aren't working for you anymore. Just like Valentine's Day shouldn't be the best time to tell someone you love them. Tell them TODAY, right now! That's the best time for action, right now, in the present.
I prefer to set goals and make a plan to achieve them. If I feel very strongly about a goal and I'm faced with a decision, I ask myself "Will this get me to my goal?" If the answer is no, I tend not to do it. Notice how I didn't say I do it all the time? That's because I'm human, like you and slip up, get sidetracked, distracted and disheartened. I find that's where I learn things, figure out my goal isn't on that road and right myself.

I've set myself some goals for this year. Gone out and bought some core flute from Bunnings (stronger than cardboard) for a few vision boards and made a start. I've started research, saved pictures for inspiration and started telling people, which makes it real! Three of my goals involved using skills I already have and one is something I have never done before and it's kind of a big thing, for me anyway! Stay tuned for that one.
I attempted to start this blog page a few years ago but it never went anywhere, probably because I got sidetracked and disheartened LOL. Anyway, I have revamped it to be more in tune with my life now and actually made it go live!!
There are plenty of resources out there to help you set and achieve goals. Find something that works for you, consider trying a few different ways, you might surprise yourself.
I would also encourage you to not get overwhelmed by big goals, they are just lots of little goals put together. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Remember, forward is forward, no matter how slow.
Thanks for making it to the end of my very first personal blog! I'd love it if you left a little comment to help boost my ego LOL.
